Maintains order in courtroom during trial and guards jury from outside contact. Work includes checking courtroom for security and cleanliness; enforcing courtroom rules of behavior; stopping people from entering courtroom while judge charges jury; providing jury escort to restaurant and other areas outside of courtroom to prevent jury contact with public; guards lodging of sequestered jury; prepares court calendar and custody lists for court. Work is performed in a courtroom or office setting.
Essential duties and responsibilities include providing comfort for jury members during trials, serving as the custodian of juries during deliberation, maintaining an inventory of refreshments for use during jury trials, preparing daily courtroom assignments for judges and staff, preparing custody lists for the day's court calendar, performing security screening, enforcing courtroom rules of behavior, guarding security for sequestered jury, responding to courts, Commissioners, elected officials, County employees, and citizens questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner, performing time management and scheduling functions, meeting deadlines, and setting project priorities, communicating and coordinating regularly with appropriate co-workers to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities, maintaining strict confidentiality in all cases, assisting other department and County employees as needed or requested, and performing all work duties and activities in accordance with County policies, procedures, and safety practices.
Secondary duties and responsibilities include performing other duties as assigned.
Classification requirements include knowledge of rules of evidence, court services, processes, policies and procedures, current office practices and procedures, including data entry, record keeping and filing practices and procedures, English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and composition, basic bookkeeping and cash handling, customer service procedures, techniques, and objectives, and operation of a personal computer and job-related software applications. Skills and abilities include speaking clearly and communicating accurate information to others, using English to communicate effectively with others, proficiently operating computers, software programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, or similar office software to create documents and other materials, maintaining information, and generating reports, listening carefully to, understand, and effectively communicate through oral, written, and interpersonal communication channels, following verbal and written instructions, working independently and exercising initiative, with general guidance and supervision, using good judgment to make sound and reasonable decisions and problem-solving skills to respond to customer service needs in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations and established policies, maintaining a professional demeanor at all times, maintaining confidentiality, performing a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines, demonstrating integrity and ingenuity in the performance of assigned tasks and solving problems, and performing all duties in accordance with County policies and procedures with regard for personal safety and that of other employees and the public.
Acceptable experience and training include a high school diploma or GED, one years experience in a courtroom, law enforcement or attorneys office, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Must successfully pass background investigation relevant to the position and remain in good standing for the duration of employment with the County.
