General Laborer

The General Laborer will assist with a variety of manual tasks to support daily operations, such as loading and unloading materials, preparing worksites, operating basic tools or equipment, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. The ideal candidate is dependable, physically capable of performing labor-intensive tasks, and willing to learn and take direction from supervisors. General laborers play a key role in keeping projects on schedule and ensuring that work is completed efficiently and safely. This position may involve working outdoors or in different environments, depending on the needs of the job site or company. This is a full-time position.

Essential Functions

  • Clean and organize
  • Receive freight, unload trucks using a forklift and put in proper place in shops
  • Receive and unload raw material and put it away
  • Organize raw material
  • Package and prepare items for shipping
  • Safely operate a trailer (hitch, unhitch, load, unload, pull behind truck, backup, etc.)
  • Pick up/deliver parts and materials from vendors
  • Transport equipment and machinery to jobsites/vendors/customers
  • Track material and tool sign out sheets
  • Ensure parts and materials used are documented and turned in
  • Service and clean equipment (trucks, trailers, etc.)
  • Call for scrap bin exchanges
  • Clean shops (sweeping, organizing, trash removal, etc.)
  • Assist in Prefabrication as needed
  • Pickup garbage and debris around shops
  • Make sure scraps are in the scrap bin
  • Keep propane bottles filled and organized
  • Clean work areas, machines, and tools
  • Shovel snow between buildings and from sidewalk and put ice melt down
  • Conduct forklift, scissor lift, and crane inspections
  • Clean and restock gang boxes
  • Accurately measure and read tape measure
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Operate small power tools

Qualifications

1+ years of experience operating machines in a fabrication shop environment Clean driving record Experience pulling a trailer Ability to meet deadlines and schedules Reliable Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral Maintain shop upkeep, organization, tooling, equipment, and cleanliness Ability to compute basic math Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities, with attention to detail. Willing to work overtime as needed Attention to detail

Physical Demands and Abilities

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee will be required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
