Electrical Engineering Manager

Madison, WI/Hybrid Remote

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, or contribute to a team for design and development projects as assigned.
  • Develop closed-loop control systems for an industrial environment, including microcontroller-based instrumentation and motor controls.
  • Perform circuit design and analysis of low-noise, high-precision analog instrumentation circuits.
  • Design high-speed digital processing and communication circuits.
  • Design and layout Printed Circuit Boards.
  • Work with vendors and purchasing to select electrical components.
  • Work with mechanical engineering to develop enclosures and packaging for new products.
  • Assist manufacturing by developing test equipment and procedures to verify functionality of products before shipment to customers.
  • Support research and development efforts relating to ultrasonic and infrared sensor technologies.
  • Ensure products conform to design regulations and requirements for the US and European markets, including but not limited to UL, CE, and RoHS.
  • Document product features and functionality.
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for R&D initiatives, from concept to prototype development, ensuring alignment with company goals.
  • Lead cross-functional innovation efforts and manage R&D projects, resource allocation, risk management, and development timelines.
  • Collaborate with sales management, mechanical engineering, and executive leadership to define the product roadmap and long-term technology strategy.
  • Promote innovation and drive continuous improvement across the R&D team.
  • Oversee intellectual property development, including patent filings and competitive technology assessments.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to team members.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support career progression for engineering staff.
  • Contribute to budget planning for R&D, coordinating with various stakeholders throughout the process.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Experience Requirements:
  • 5 years of design experience in an electronics manufacturing industry.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing multidisciplinary engineering teams in an R&D environment.
  • Experience designing circuit boards for production required.
  • Experience with Altium Designer required.
  • Experience with embedded industrial control systems required.
  • Experience managing the full product development lifecycle, from early-stage concept development, technical validation, and prototyping through product verification, process validation, and transfer to manufacturing.
  • Experience designing or developing products utilizing ultrasonic and/or infrared sensing technologies, including signal processing and system integration.
  • Computer literate - Proficient in Microsoft based systems.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Compensation:

$110-150k base

Travel Requirements:

Minimal, less than 10%
