The job details are as follows:
We're seeking a Senior Software Engineer who thrives on building backend-focused, scalable, and maintainable applications using Java and Spring. This is an Individual Contributor role with minor mentoring responsibilities (no direct reports). You will design, develop, and test complex software while collaborating with architects and other engineers to solve challenging problems. Front-end work is optional. The role is hybrid in Dublin, Ohio, and AI tooling is treated as a capability to enhance development productivity and quality.

Responsibilities:

• Independently design, develop, and test complex backend features and systems using Java, Spring, and Maven for testing and deployment.
• Lead small initiatives and mentor junior engineers to share knowledge and elevate team capabilities.
• Collaborate with architects and engineers to define robust backend architectures, data models, and data flows; drive integration with third-party services.
• Contribute to solution architecture discussions and decisions, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and modernization goals.
• Design and optimize data pipelines, storage strategies, and database access patterns to support large data sets and analytics workloads.
• Drive code quality through testing strategies, reviews, and static analysis; promote best practices across the team.
• Support modernization efforts, including refactoring legacy components and planning cloud-related upgrades.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to improve productivity and code quality; evaluate and adopt AI tooling where beneficial.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues with a focus on root-cause analysis and long-term improvements.

Qualifications:

• Tech foundation: Strong experience in Java (Spring) with enterprise-scale backend development.
• Data/complexity focus: Demonstrated ability to design and manage data-heavy backend systems; experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Legacy & modernization: Experience supporting or modernizing legacy backend applications or services.
• IC with mentoring: Proven ability to mentor junior engineers and collaborate effectively with architects and other engineers (without direct reports).
• AI tooling as capability: Demonstrated experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity or code quality.
• Deployment & operations basics: Experience with containerization and modern deployments (containerization preferred; Kubernetes is a plus) and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab or equivalent).
