The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for a year round, temporary benefitted Watercraft Station Inspector located in the Twin Falls, ID area, including Centennial, Shoshone, and Twin Falls boat station locations.

SPECIAL NOTIFICATION: This non-classified position is exempt from classified state service and the rules of the Division of Human Resources and the Idaho Personnel Commission.

Example of Duties:

Successful candidates will conduct watercraft inspections and decontaminations throughout the Magic Valley / Twin Falls area watercraft inspection stations . This job is part of the agency's statewide invasive species prevention program and the inspectors will be responsible for examining and inspecting watercraft to prevent the spread of zebra/quagga mussels and other Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) from infested states. The use of policy and systematic procedures is of the utmost importance. Collecting, documenting and properly storing samples; following proper decontamination protocol; and the ability to read maps are all essential skills. The ability to keep accurate records is required for such information as inspection locations, mileage, samples, and time spent conducting an inspection.

The position will use an established protocol to inspect watercraft and conduct decontaminations on high-risk conveyances; conducting quality control activities at watercraft inspection stations; setting up and taking down portable traffic signs on daily basis; and properly entering detailed watercraft data on an electronic inspection form.

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful applicant must be able to fulfill the following duties:

  • Good communication skills

  • Ability to pay attention to detail when conducting watercraft inspections

  • Work in various types of weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain, etc.)

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. with or without a reasonable accommodation

  • Ability to bend and crawl underneath watercraft, when necessary and with or without a reasonable accommodation

  • Available to working evenings, weekends, holidays, and long hours

  • Available to work 40 hours per week

  • Valid driver's license

Desired Qualifications

  • Aquatic biology, ecology or field inspection experience

  • Experience with pressure washers

  • Familiarity with troubleshooting field equipment
