CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY The primary function of this position is to monitor and ensure the safety and security of the County detention center. Work includes booking/releasing inmates, escorting/transporting inmates, performing cell checks, ensuring inmate basic needs such as meals, personal hygiene, clothes, etc., and entering and maintaining documentation. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Detention Corporal, Sergeant or Lieutenant, with latitude granted to the employee for the use of independent judgment and initiative, but work is subject to stringent state and County legal guidelines. The principal duties of this class are performed in a work environment in which the employee is subject to potential personal danger and health hazards.
