St. Luke's Health System has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Lab Assistant to join our Magic Valley Laboratory team at St. Luke's Magic Valley Hospital! The Lab Assistant is responsible for the pre-analytical processing of laboratory specimens AND/OR for the procurement and preparation of laboratory specimens for testing and performs simple tasks and tests under direct supervision.

Lab Assistant schedule: the shift for this position is a rotating one with rotating weekends (about one weekend, every 4 weeks).

Hours per shift: 8-hour shifts with rotating start times: 9am, 10am, and 11am

What You Can Expect:

• Transcribe laboratory testing orders efficiently and accurately.
• Ensure specimens are properly identified, labeled, collected, and stored.
• Basic specimen processing. - Distribute or track specimens to the appropriate areas of the laboratory for testing.
• Basic knowledge of specimen collections from individuals of varying ages, diverse physical and mental disabilities, and health conditions.
• Explain collection procedures and provide patient instructions to ensure the accurate collection or preparation of specimens, to facilitate patient/caregiver understanding, and to reduce patient anxiety. Handle basic patient complications and escalate patient concerns to leadership.
• Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids.
• Maintains a safe and clean working environment.
• May register patients or provide courier services.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
