Airport Maintenance Operator

Description:

The Airport Maintenance Operator handles diverse tasks essential to the maintenance, operation, and security of the Airport's buildings and grounds. Responsibilities include maintaining runway, ramp, and taxiway lighting and markings, as well as airport-wide security. The operations team collaborates to ensure seamless coverage and monitoring, requiring some flexibility for overtime and varied scheduling, including nights, weekends, and holidays. This role also involves participating in an on-call rotation.

Key Responsibilities:      

  • Ensure airport compliance with FAA regulations and certifications
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of runways, taxiways, and lighted signs
  • Ensure airport security against theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access
  • Support public interactions and maintain positive relationships with tenants and pilots
  • Disseminate flight safety info via the NOTAM system and conduct emergency notifications to relevant agencies and personnel when necessary
  • Keep airport markings and facilities clean and ready for FAA inspections
  • Perform wildlife hazard management and snow removal
  • Maintain landscaped areas and repair equipment
  • Prepare the airport for special events and conduct educational tours

Qualifications:   

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Airport operational area, grounds, buildings and equipment maintenance;
  • Basic electrical and carpentry skills;
  • FAA safety regulations and TSA security regulations and requirements;
  • Good public relations and communication skills;
  • Proper and precise radio communication with air traffic control tower;

Abilities:

  • Operate both general office equipment and heavy machinery;
  • Maintain a professional demeanor during stressful situations;
  • Learn, understand, and interpret laws, rules, regulations, and policies and make sound and reasonable decisions in accordance with them;
  • Respond to citizen requests in a courteous and effective manner;
  • Perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines;

Experience and Education:                                                                                                                          

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency (required).
  • Basic familiarity with various types and sizes of equipment and hand tools; maintenance skills, including light carpentry and plumbing. 
  • Possess a Class B Commercial Driver`s License or have the ability to obtain one within first year of employment.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Essential Physical Abilities:                                                                                                                                                                         

The successful candidate must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, be in sufficient physical condition to perform continual physical activity in all types of weather conditions and observe proper safety precautions.
