Park Operator

Description:

Work Schedule:  Monday – Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Friday 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  On-call rotation required (on call seven days at a time, on a rotating basis) to respond to any after-hour or emergency calls.  Applicants must live within twenty-five (25) miles of the City of Twin Falls.

Description:       

Under the direction of a Parks Lead Operator, an Operator in the Parks Department performs a variety of general maintenance, mechanical, and beautification tasks related to City parks, athletic fields, and other recreational areas. The primary duties involve using a variety of equipment and tools for the repair, upkeep, and enhancement of these areas. Requires the ability to interact professionally with citizens and park patrons, as well as peers within the organization.  The role requires working in an outdoor environment, often under adverse weather conditions and related hazards. 

Key Responsibilities:      

  • Maintain city parks, athletic fields, and open spaces, ensuring cleanliness and functionality of amenities.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks such as plumbing, welding, mowing, cleaning, and trash collection.
  • Operate a variety of hand tools and power equipment, such as chainsaws, grinders, welders, and drills.
  • Operate some heavy equipment such as large area mowers, dump trucks, loaders, and chippers.
  • Build, install, repair, clean, and paint infrastructure and park facilities, including picnic shelters, playground equipment, benches, fencing, irrigation systems, restrooms, concession stands, and storage sheds.
  • Repair and maintain playing fields by cultivating, leveling, fertilizing, overseeding, and replacing turf.
  • Mow and trims grassy areas, along fences, and the banks of drainage ditches.
  • Promote plant health through irrigation system management, pruning, aerating, and applying fertilizers and pesticides.
  • Provide training and support to new employees in similar roles.
  • May perform duties related to snow removal (shoveling, plowing, de-icing).
  • May supervisor the work of seasonal employees.
  • Perform additional tasks as required.

Experience and Education:                                                                                                                          

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency (required).
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Required Qualifications:               

  • Valid driver`s license
  • Idaho State Professional Applicator License (must possess or be able to obtain within one year of employment.)

Special Qualifications:

Should possess or obtain one or more of the following within three (3) years of employment:

  • Certified Pool Operator
  • Backflow Assembly Tester License
  • Class B Commercial Driver`s License with Air Brake and Tanker Endorsements
  • Playground Safety Inspector
  • Certified Sports Field Manager
  • Water 1 Certification
  • Class A Commercial Driver`s License
  • Arborist Certification

Desired Skills 

  • Skills in trades such as welding, construction, plumbing, and irrigation system maintenance and installation.
  • Familiarity with the correct procedures for chemical application.
  • Ability to maintain composure in high-stress situations; demonstrate initiative; and work independently.
  • Ability to learn and interpret laws, rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer for email and work orders.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and communicate effectively
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and perform continuous physical labor in all weather conditions and rough terrain.
  • Basic familiarity with various types and sizes of equipment and hand tools, including maintenance and repair.
