POSITION: PARK LEAD OPERATOR

BI-WEEKLY STARTING SALARY RANGE: $1,651 - $1,982

EFFECTIVE DATE: Upon selection

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Under the direction of the Parks Supervisor, the Lead Operator in the Parks Department serves as a crew leader to manage projects associated with the maintenance and beautification of City parks, trails, athletic fields or related areas; guides, evaluates and monitors the work of others; and responds to problems or issues that may arise. The Lead Operator will be responsible for operating a variety of trucks, mowers, tractors and equipment to construct, repair and maintain City parks, properties and facilities. Direct supervision is exercised over assigned Operators, Senior Operators and/or Seasonal Staff.

Primary duties include providing leadership and training for members of the team; managing duties related to the maintenance of irrigation systems, mowing and spraying, repair and maintenance, and plumbing, welding, painting, and cleaning tasks. The primary duties of this class are performed in an outdoor environment that may involve adverse weather conditions and related hazards.

The successful candidate must have the ability to supervise and lead direct subordinates; learn and communicate policies and procedures to ensure compliance; be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; observe proper safety precautions; establish effective working relationships with other employees and interact with the public in a fashion that promotes good public relations; and be in sufficient physical condition to perform heavy physical labor.

QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered for the position an applicant must have a high school education or equivalent; a valid driver’s license; must reside within 25 miles of Twin Falls; three (3) years of experience in parks maintenance and equipment operation and maintenance or related field; two (2) years of experience leading or mentoring the work of others; a State of Idaho’s Professional Applicator License or the ability to obtain one within one year of hire; sufficient physi­cal condition to perform the essential functions of the position which consists of continuous physical labor in all types of weather conditions.

Knowledge of the following areas is desired: chemical application protocols; welding technologies; arboricultural techniques and practices; equipment maintenance and repair; construction principles and practices; irrigation system maintenance and installation.
