JOB SUMMARY:

The Technology Assistant works under the supervision of the Automation Technology Department Head, within the framework of the established policies and procedures. Work involves assisting customers when using library computers and providing training and support. Additional work involves updating website articles, conducting computer training classes, and assisting with technology maintenance.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Serve as the first point of contact for patrons and staff seeking technical assistance.   Responds to patron inquiries, providing support and instruction.
  2. Follow up with patrons and staff to ensure the issue has been resolved.
  3. Install computer peripherals for staff. 
  4. Maintain the daily performance of computer systems.
  5. Install, modify, and repair computer hardware and software.
  6. Run diagnostic programs to resolve problems.
  7. Redirect unresolved issues to the next level of support.
  8. Provide feedback on processes and make recommendations on areas to improve.
  9. Maintain technical documentation and service catalog on the installation of software, the configuration of hardware, and problem troubleshooting.
  10. Assists with delivering high-quality library programs and services to community members. May schedule and train patrons on the use of equipment. May require specialized knowledge of technology, computer, and software programs.
  11. Operate a variety of equipment including, 3D printer, copiers, scanners, computers, printing equipment, and digital cameras.
  12. Assists with creating, developing, and managing content on the Twin Falls Public Library’s website.
  13. Coordinates virtual marketing efforts with library staff.
  14. May assist in circulation tasks, including assisting patrons with account activity, fines, check-in, and check-out duties when needed.
  15. Takes the initiative in educating library staff on technology issues through both informal on-the-job training and scheduled refreshers.
  16. Performs other duties as required as assigned.
     

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Considerable knowledge in technology skills for computer operating systems, including Linux, Windows, Mac OS, Office productivity suites, such as LibreOffice, Microsoft Office, that can be expressed to public in an easy, friendly manner; ability to diagnose and resolve basic technical issues; ability to communicate new ideas, products and services in a positive and energetic manner; good interpersonal skills and ability to maintain and foster cooperative and courteous working relationship with the public, peers, and supervisors; intermediate understanding of technological advances such as 3D printing and aid in public use of technologies; ability to work in public setting while organizing and prioritizing work.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, bend, and reach and lift objects. Must have good hand-eye coordination necessary to operate computers and various office equipment.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, and push/pull library carts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

Completion of two years of college, and experience and skill in customer service or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates an aptitude of ability to perform the required tasks.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:

  • Basic web development skills (HTML, CSS, Javascript)
  • CompTIA A+
  • CompTIA Network+
  • Spanish language and/or other non-English language skills
     

SCHEDULE

This is a full-time, non-exempt position at 40 hours a week.  The schedule is Tuesday - Saturday 9-6, and occasional special project hours.  Please note that schedules are subject to change to meet the needs of the library.

Pay rate is $14.90-15.50 per hour DOE
