Description:

General Statement of Duties: Under the direction of the Building Official, the Mechanical/Plumbing Inspector is a combination position that will require both field and office related activities while providing service within the Building Safety Department.

Mechanical/Plumbing Inspection 70%

  • The ability to work with the public, architects, engineers and building contractors to be able to clearly explain, interpret and provide guidance for obtaining compliance with applicable codes as adopted by the City of Twin Falls and State of Idaho to include applicable city ordinances.
  • Conducts field inspections of residential, commercial, industrial, and other buildings during and after construction to ensure that construction meets or exceeds all applicable plumbing and mechanical codes.
  • Conducts investigations and responds to complaints on violations, provides information and answers questions as needed.
  • Maintain and provide complete and accurate records with daily computer data entry.
  • Reviews plans and specifications on-site to ensure construction is in accordance with City-approved plans and check for code deficiencies and local zoning requirements

Customer Service 30%

  • Ability to be able to resolve customer service issues in a polite, courteous, and efficient manner.
  • The ability to compose letters in Microsoft Word; and assist with day-to-day operations of the Building Safety Department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 High school diploma or GED equivalency; a current Idaho journeyman plumber certificate issued by Division Of Occupational & Professional Licenses, supplemented by five (5) years of experience in plumbing or mechanical installations. As a condition of continued employment, International Code Council certification as a Residential/Commercial Mechanical Inspector and IAMPO Plumbing Inspector certification are required within 1 year of employment.

              Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record; knowledge of building practices, laws, methods, and materials; good reading comprehension; and the ability to read and interpret civil, architectural, and structural blueprints, codes and ordinances.

Must be able to work outdoors which may involve adverse weather conditions. Must have sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to drive to various locations and move around construction sites for inspection purposes, including climbing ladders and scaffolding, walking on roofs, maneuvering over walls, crawling under floors, etc.
