STARTING BI-WEEKLY SALARY:    $1,445 – $1,734       Grade 6   Non-Exempt

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Friday 7:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK:  Under the direction of a Parks Lead Operator, an Operator in the Parks Department must perform a variety of work associated with general maintenance, mechanical and beautification of City parks, athletic fields, or related areas. The principal duties of this class are performed in an outdoor environment that may involve adverse weather conditions and related hazards.

Operator duties 70%

  • Maintains city parks and open spaces, ensuring all spaces are clean and all amenities are in working condition;
  • Performs basic plumbing, welding, mowing, cleaning and trash collection duties;
  • Operates various hand tools and power equipment such as chainsaws, grinders, welders and drills;
  • Monitors and maintains equipment in a safe operating condition and reports all damages to supervisor;
  • Operates some heavy equipment such as large area mowers, dump truck, backhoes, skid steers, and
  • Performs necessary tasks to maintain and promote the growth and health of the plants, trees and grass in city facilities, including operating and maintaining irrigation systems, pruning and trimming trees and shrubs, aerating, and applying fertilizer and pesticides under close supervision;

  • Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and provides suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems;
  • Responds to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner;
  • Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of entire City organization.
  •  Serves seven days on-call on a rotating basis to respond to any after-hour or emergency calls.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicant must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent; have a valid driver’s license; be in sufficient physical condition to perform the essential functions of the position which consists of continuous physical labor in all types of weather conditions, frequently lifting and/or moving 50 to 100 pounds; and any combination of education and experience which demonstrates a general knowledge of the operation of mechanical equipment and various hand tools.

Familiarity with correct proce­dures for chemical application; understand both written and oral instructions; have the ability to work independently to complete daily activities according to work schedule; use equipment and tools properly and safely; and establish effective working relationship with employees and the public.

As a condition of continued employment, the applicant must possess or obtain the Idaho State Professional Applicator license within one year of hire. Applicants must live within 25 miles of the City of Twin Falls.
